What is Maitri
The name Maitri comes from the ancient Sanskrit language and is often translated as “friendship,” “benevolence,” or “loving-kindness.” In Buddhist and Hindu traditions, it describes an attitude of unconditional friendliness—toward others and toward ourselves. At its heart, Maitri is about nurturing kindness, patience, and empathy, while also extending that same compassion inward.

This name carries special meaning for me. A dear client once shared the word Maitri with me, telling me it reminded her of the work we had been doing together. She reflected on how often I return to the theme of self-compassion in therapy and how central it is to growth and healing. Her words deeply resonated with me, and I knew Maitri was the perfect name for my practice.

At Maitri Therapy Services, this concept is more than just a name. It is the guiding principle for my work. It speaks to therapy being a space to practice gentleness, explore your inner world with curiosity, and move toward greater self-awareness and acceptance - not only of the world around you but of yourself. By fostering Maitri, we open the door to greater emotional resilience, joy, and a more compassionate way of living.
